Dubai - glitz, glam, large hotels, enormous shopping malls, the world's tallest building, the worlds biggest musical fountain, Dubai is in some ways the anithesis of the kind of thing we like... but look a little bit beneath the surface and there are still some great things about Dubai and indeed some very nice places to stay beyond the monstrosity of places like 'Atlantis - The Palm'.
Oman on the other hand we love without reservations for it's magnificent scenery, desert fortresses, welcoming people, open spaces and general absence of tackiness which seems to have swamped Dubai. It's a place to discover something of the magic of Arabia.
